The Third Meeting of the Thessaloniki Port Users' Council successfully took place on Thursday, May 12, 2022, chaired by Mr. Athanasios Liagkos, Executive Chairman of the BoD of ThPA S.A., with the active participation of Mr. Franco Nicola Cupolo, Managing Director - Chief Executive Officer of ThPA S.A., representatives from relevant bodies, as well as executives and partners of the company.  

The meetings of the Thessaloniki Port Users' Council constitute a significant platform for dialogue between the members of the port community. Their goal is to exchange views about issues of common interest and initiatives that strengthen the growth orientation of ThPA S.A.  

In this framework, the third meeting, in which 21 representatives from 21 bodies participated, focused on the progress of the infrastructure development projects realized in the Port, the upgrade of the equipment and services provided, as well as the ongoing improvement of connectivity.  

Additionally, emphasis was given to the Port's significant tourist growth prospects, following the strong start of the season, further to last year's excellent performance in Cruise and Ferry.

Commenting on the meeting's proceedings, the Executive Chairman of the BoD of ThPA S.A., Athanasios Liagkos, noted: "The excellent cooperation between ThPA S.A. and the users of the Port of Thessaloniki was once again affirmed. We share a common vision with the broader port community regarding the port's constant evolution and international competitiveness. In this framework, at ThPA S.A., we continue implementing projects and initiatives, which enhance our role as a gateway to growth for Thessaloniki, Greece and the broader Southeast, Central and Eastern European region".

Two new specially designed New Panamax STS Cranes with lifting capacity of 65 tons and 50 tons in twin-lift mode and in single-lift mode, respectively, arrived today at the Port of Thessaloniki. With the arrival of the new equipment, the Container Terminal of the Port of Thessaloniki now has 6 STS cranes.

The new STS cranes enable the Port of Thessaloniki to directly serve main liner vessels, with a capacity of over 10,000 TEU (New Panamax) and contribute significantly to attracting new lines. Along with the expansion of Pier 6, the installation of additional STS cranes at the Container Terminal is planned, further enhancing the role of Thessaloniki as an important gateway for trade between Asia and Southeast and Central Europe.

“With the 2 new specially designed New Panamax STS cranes for the Port of Thessaloniki, with a total value of €15.7 mil. , more than 80% of the company's Mandatory Investments in equipment is completed” stressed the Executive Chairman of the BoD of ThPA S.A., Thanos Liagkos.

The new equipment substantially upgrades the services provided by the port, optimizes the container handling service levels, doubles the production capacity of the Container Terminal, and significantly improves the port's competitiveness.

“The unloading of the cranes and their installation at Pier 6 is expected to be completed within 7 days, while they are estimated to be delivered in fully functional and operational capacity in early July this year”, stated the Managing Director - CEO of ThPA S.A., Franco Nicola Cupolo.

ThPA S.A., in the context of offering an integrated full spectrum of services, which aim to provide better planning and service to Shipping Lines-Carriers/Shipping Agents and to increase productivity through the improvement of the operational efficiency of the Container Terminal, takes the initiative to invite all stakeholders to a Consultation on its intention to launch the "Berth Notification” service with ETA/ETB agreed in advance, a best practice which is applied in many European and International Ports.

We invite all stakeholders to participate in the relevant Consultation to submit their views and express their interest about the new service "Berth Notification" as well as on the criteria to be considered in its implementation to the Commercial Division of ThPA S.A. directly to This email address is being protected from spambots. These criteria are:

1.           Volume commitment by each Shipping Line-Carrier

2.           Target volumes per vessel

3.           Minimum operational KPIs on crane split per vessel

4.           Volume allocation in ThPA S.A. Intermodal Rail services with utilization KPIs

5.           Target transshipment cargo volumes

6.           Target transit volumes
